Here is the second half of my last 3 months blog post…
As with most life changing experiences, change follows. I have had time to really think about my baby (SK) and the direction in which I want to move. Some of the hopes and aspirations as well as target audience have changed or grown as I have grown. As I mentioned in part 1, a chance meeting in my last week in Lagos made everything make sense. The word epiphany may seem dramatic but it’s so apt. After much confusion (or growing pains) over SK, suddenly it all made sense.
Now that I’m back in the UK; goals, plans and strategy documents are being worked on. And in light of this, I think a rebrand is in order. By rebrand I’m not simply referring to logos and website but I mean core business, target audience, event types and social media activity. With reference to social media, I began the year with the aim of becoming more consistent and therefore developed weekly and monthly features. As enjoyable as this was, it does take time and after a while it became a tad cumbersome. And also too prescribed. Rather than creating a moodboard on inspiration, it became a function of a Saturday or Sunday evening, in other words forced. Without sounding too much like an airy fairy artist, I don’t want to box in my creativity (too late, cringe). So some of you may have already noticed that the frequency of posts has reduced dramatically and whilst the aim is not to become lazy or deprive our wonderful readers of creative goodness, it is on the whole better for Simply Kayo. It allows time to get on with our core business of designing, managing and executing masterpiece events.
Regarding the rebrand, simplykayo.com will still be familiar to those of you that started with us, but simply a more grown up version. I want to project an image that adequately captures all that I want SK to be and appeal to all audiences for which we will now cater. This is going to be done properly (both on the branding side and the actual business side) so it’s not going to be a quick job. We are still some way off from a big reveal but do watch this space. I will keep you updated as much as I can via this blog, Twitter, Facebook and the newsletter (if you don’t already receive it, do sign up).
I will end this post on a positive note saying that I am extremely excited and feel very blessed to have had the opportunity to experience all that I have in the last 3 months. In addition to that I am so grateful for the support I have received with SK over the last 2.5 years. My family have been incredible (my parents especially) and friends so encouraging. And thank you also to those that became SK family through this blog and other social media. Much love and gratitude to you all.
